Once-in-a-while fiction

An idea struck me this morning when I was brushing my teeth. It is that time of the day I get creative bursts of ideas, some random and some dumb. I am most likely to forget them as I shower and get ready to office. Today, I remembered to make a note of it in my sticky note and that is the reason I am blogging about it. The idea is to write occasional short stories influenced by real-life characters in which most part of the story will be fragments of my imagination. As always, I do not restrict myself or my writing with a lot of rules, but to make it more interesting for my readers, I will try and stick to the same characters in my stories, so you can relate to them. I will start with a love story. A love that began with a ௳ (Pillayar Suzhi) “Ma, recharge… mobile…hundred rupees and don’t forget the SMS add-on pack ma.” Dev shouted as he sped away as a pillion with his friend Jayan in a Yamaha Libero. There could be a million things Dev could have done that day, but he ...

Uncertainity - Drabble*

Maya bit her lip. She saw the laser lights ricocheting off the roof and walls. Searching for him in the crowd, she fell down. Her sight seemed to be blurred and hesitation kissed her forehead as she felt a sharp tingling sensation in her head. She thought she spotted him near the bar sharing drinks with strangers. Suddenly he was gone. She rose slowly and tried to walk back to the lounge. Her legs failed her. She looked down trying to remove her heels but she was barefooted. She had taken a sip of toxin strewn in her shot glass. Picture Source - here *Drabble - A drabble is a short work of fiction of around one hundred words in length

A Morning Star

Team - Writer's Den Chapter 1: Mens Rea by Mahesh Sowani Me and my team are participating in ‘ Game Of Blogs ’ at  BlogAdda.com . #CelebrateBlogging with us.   In a place where rain strikes and strikes rain, one evening, an eerie silence took over the churchyard as the dense lid of the night closed upon the horizon. There was a jarring silence which would scare anyone, but JJ was above all this, or so she thought. Trying to stay behind a hedge in the shadows of the overhanging coconut trees, she sped through the yard heading towards a leading daily – News Today’s office. JJ alighted from her bicycle and detached her camera in a swift motion from her sling bag. She wore a quirky red and yellow flannel shirt tucked in her denim shorts and heavy boots which almost touched her knees. She carried off a multi-stranded grey pearl neck piece with a palm-sized feather and diamanté pendant, and she conveniently resembled a gypsy punk. A dusky skin tone which sh...

Drabble - The Call

I was trying to change lanes as my phone rang. Quickly, I switched the headset on and I heard a familiar voice “Hey it’s me. Are you at office?” I said no and the voice continued “I want to thank you for backing me and it was a pleasure working with you” as the tone trailed off. “What? Are you in office yet?” I asked and I heard a sharp beep. Traffic thickened and I reached office late. I had a strange feeling about my friend’s call and my colleagues’ faces proved it. 55 Fiction - The Mystery of a missing jet

The top official ordered a terrorist probe. The Prime minister nodded in agreement. Amidst the tension caused by the missing MH370, the two of them smiled and shook hands.   No one noticed but me. The Mouse Trap

I started typing… Some of the keys in my keyboard popped up, Picture source - Google   In an order; as if mocking me, “ L   O   A   F   E   R ” I rubbed my eyes vigorously hoping it’d bring me back to reality. It continued, “ F    O    O    L ” this time.   I banged heavily on the keyboard, thrashing my fingers. I then reached for the mouse to shut the computer down. The mouse moved away, as if some ingenious spirit has gotten into it. Grabbing hold of its cable, I pulled; trying to keep it in place. The cable pulled away from my hands and there it lay, hanging above my head. I moved away in an impulse, not wanting to be hit by a possessed mouse. The cable started dancing in the air, making shapes. The last shape I saw was that of a folded awareness ribbon. It came closer to me; I shout out and pass out, at the same time.   Realizat...
